Nothing beats watching your national football team play live, especially in one of the world’s most prestigious tournaments, the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
So, when 168 Irish fans faced the very real possibility of missing their team’s game against group rivals Belgium due to an aircraft technical fault, our dedicated leasing department, ACMI 24, wasted no time in helping out.
With only a short timeframe, Senior Leasing Manager, Scott Collier, worked quickly to source an alternative aircraft, but the challenges didn’t stop there:
“The aircraft I supplied was an Airbus A340, which has one of the widest wingspans of any airliner, and due to its size and the congestion at Bordeaux, the Airport Authority initially refused to accept it.”
“Thankfully, following lengthy discussions with the Airport Operations Manager and no small amount of perseverance, we were able to secure clearance and the flight went ahead, getting the Ireland fans to Bordeaux in time for the game.”Back to News
